Pennington at Walmart
As I wrote about in my last post, Walmart was to begin selling Pennington brand wild bird seed in a short time. I went back to Walmart after writing that post and spoke personally with the Garden Center manager. He confirmed what his employee had told me and let me know they should have the new Pennington line stocked either that weekend or early the next week. I returned the following week to find all the Morning Song product had been replaced with Pennington wherever possible. I was happy to see it!
There were only a few things I saw that were not changed. One of them being the corn cobs for squirrel prong feeders. Apparently, Pennington doesn’t make these. This is unfortunate because I believe it’s one of the things the price has gone through the roof on. The other was the squirrel mix. For this, they’ve gotten the 3-D brand which is excellent and very reasonably priced. I believe the 10 pound bag is just less than 9 dollars while the 20 pound bag just under 15 dollars. So there’s some incentive to stock up if you’ve got the little critters and you feed them.
For the rest, most of the feeders I saw were Pennington and other lesser-known brands. I was happy to see the seed prices remained fairly stable with the exception of the premium Pennington lines which they just added.
So, if you’ve been frustrated with your Walmart’s ability to stock and competitively price their wild bird offerings, now would be an excellent time to take another trip there to see what they have to offer.
How about you? What has frustrated you the most about trying to find wild bird products at Walmart? Leave me a comment below so we can discuss it.
